28 October Water Logged but Dry

Amazing how the weather changes. Yesterday it was hot and glorious sunshine but today has been a wet one.

As I knew today was going to be wet l had planned to take an early stroll into Roses. However as I got a bit embroiled in my latest read (Judas Horse by Lynda la Plante), by the time I got going it was about 10.30am.

Unfortunately I'd only made it across the road and there was a rumble of thunder (or it could've been a noise from an apartment block undergoing building work) which just happened to coincide with decent sized raindrops.

Now I can do drizzle, as you don't really get wet wearing a cagoule (anorak or Pac a Mac - so many names for the same thing. A bit like those black gym shoes you wore for PE at primary school - the name changed depending on where you lived - plimsolls, daps, gym shoes 😃). But when a rain drops comes down with a plop you know you're in trouble if you're not far from shelter. So being sensible I made a quick 360 and hot footed it back.

Out on the balcony it's been quite therapeutic listening to the rain while I get on with my sewing. It's been quite warm and still so I'm nicely sheltered whilst sitting on our bench overlooking the canal.

Every so often, as the rain gets heavier, the visibility dramatically reduces. No sign of the mountains today!

I checked out the afternoon forecast and going for a walk didn't really seem like it was going to be an option.

Then it stopped raining so I took a chance for a walk along the prom.

Just as I started on my potter NZ Margaret messaged to ask if I fancied a walk. So we ended up walking all the way to the castle and back.

View from the castle end across to Sta Margarita. The clouds looked very ominousl

On our walk we discovered that Roses has a public washing/laundry as well. Built in 1936 and only taken out of action in 1960! I'd never seen it before but have walked remarkably close to it on several occasions.

I introduced Margaret to the bargains at Macdonald's. You can currently get a large cappuccino and a Halloween doughnut for €2.20 or £1.85!! A welcome treat on our return journey.

We managed to complete our 5 mile walk without any more rain. I think the Met Office had been a bit over enthusiastic in predicting rain this afternoon!

I need to get some washing done at some stage so tomorrow might be a domestic day.
