30 June Successful Sleuthing

As I emerged through this morning's fogginess of semi consciousness, I thought a sea gull was crash landing on the roof. An unexpected wake up of a series of loud thumps had me thinking we had a sea gull skidding and bumping along our moss covered, and probably slightly damp roof. However, as I grasped with reality, I realised it was actually Mum's dogs, ready for their morning run outside, wagging their tails and energetically thumping the hard board walls of the van. At least I wasn't going to find a disgruntled and concussed, sea gull!
Anyway once we'd had breakfast we took the dogs for a long walk along the beach as we were off on our trip to find Mum's old room mate.

We managed to find her house but I was thinking the worse as the front garden was very overgrown. So while I parked up Mum went off sleuthing and accosted the postman who directed her to a neighbour's house.

Mum was in luck as this neighbour was able to inform Mum of her friend's health and whereabouts in a residential home which was only in the next village. So we hotfooted it there where Mum was able to catch up with her. A positive bit of detective work! Hopefully she'll soon be returning to her house but I think she'll have to get a gardener in!

By this time it was definitely lunch time so we returned to Aberystwyth for lunch and a spot of shopping for Mum. Unfortunately M&S hasn't quite recovered from it's cyper attack as some items as still out of stock. A bit frustrating at times.

A pleasant surprise on our return to the van to find that the rubble covered area has been dealt with - at last. Now topped off with top soil and grass seed so hopefully the birds don't eat it.

Anyway with the temperature only peaking at about 24C for us in Wales (in comparison to 30C+ down south), it was cool enough for a spot of weeding. Luckily I've only had the area under the car to tackle. Then I gave the niggly bits, that I couldn't pull out, a squirt of weed killer. With the hot weather I hope to return next week to find them dying off.

Tomorrow I'm thinking that a trip to Cardigan is on the cards as I still need to source a new carbon monoxide detector. With Screwfix and Tool Station there I should be able to get one.
