After my fruit and Greek yogurt breakfast (doing my best to do my healthy eating), I walked up via the Owners Lounge to have a cuppa and read the papers. The Lions rugby was on so it was a bit crowded in the main lounge but lovely out on the balcony looking out over the sea.
Then it was off up to main New Quay, taking the route over the top past the Memorial Hall, down through the car park and then down the hill to the harbour. With dolphins already visible in the bay as I walked down I knew it was going to be a good spotting morning even if I hadn't got my binoculars.
I did contemplate doing a spot of weeding out front in the afternoon but that sounded too energetic. A nice nap was more to my style 😄.
This morning I woke to the pitter patter of light drizzle. Definitely not forecast! I'm obviously sitting in the 5% chance of rain zone!
At least it made my stint of weeding much easier as the weeds pulled out nice and easy. I've now just got the area under Max (the car) to work on. A job for later in the week.
By the time Mum arrived late morning the rain was just easing off. However, with the grey clouds still threatening rain we decided on a drive up to New Quay for our lunch reservation in the Pepper Pot. A very enjoyable roast beef dinner for both of us, sitting outside under the awning as we had the dogs. Then as the weather improved it became more al fresco as the roof was opened up.
On our walk back up the hill to the car I noticed this tub of flowers. I didn't know what Llareggub was so did a bit of Googling.
Apparently Llareggub is to do with Dylan Thomas who used to live here. It's the name of the fictional Welsh village in his play Under Milk Wood (it's a play on words - spell it backwards), that the BBC commissioned as a radio drama in 1954. It depicts a spring day in the small, coastal village and the lives of it's inhabitants, which was later adapted for stage.
We had a breather just by the Black Lion pub that was Dylan Thomas's local on our way back to the car. This bench has a lovely over today's mill pond sea making it easy to spot a few dolphins.
Tomorrow we're off to Aberystwyth trying to hunt down Mum's old room mate who lives there. Mum's not had any answers to telephone calls made. You may also remember back in April that Mum had asked Ian and I to try to locate the grave of her husband in Newcastle Emlyn in case she was also buried there (we couldn't find it).
Hopefully we'll find out tomorrow if she's moved on from her home outside Aberystwyth.
