4 July Wet and Windy in Scotland

Been enjoying the July weather up in Scotland and hearing the wheelie bins flying about outside. They take off in the wind once they're empty!

Despite the unsummer like conditions we managed to get out and about, dodging the showers. Our first drive of the morning involved a trip to the local train station to check out the parking facilities (free!) as we're planning an Edinburgh Festival outing in August. It seemed sensible to see what transport options are available. Then it was the Polling Station before we went to visit the largest collection of owls in the world!

They even had a kookaburra (one of just a couple of non owls they had) which I discovered is related to a kingfisher. It seemed to be about 10 times bigger than our kingfisher and not as colourful. They also make a monkey howling noise (we definitely heard them in Australia) which is what you often hear in TV or films with jungle scenes.

An impressive owl slide in the children's play area.

Sitting in Professor How's outdoor learning area we stayed for the 'meet the owl' talk. It was very informative but we needed a hot chocolate with all the trimmings afterwards to warm up. Not quite the sunny weather we were all enjoying just last week.

This afternoon we  kept out of the rain by going to the cinema to watch 'The Quiet Place : Day One'. Now we know how it all started (the prequel to Quiet Place in case you've seen it). Then it was back for a quiet evening (no aliens running around here though) before going to collect Amy and Freddie from the airport.

We're all looking forward to our family weekend in Scotland. Off to Falkirk tomorrow.
