8 May Treasure Trail on Linlithgow

Getting the majority of us ready for a day out took a bit of coaxing today, as at times it felt like I was herding cats! Especially when Ian decided that we needed to go out to collect materials for mending Mum's gate before we headed out. Fortunately with Mum taking a rest day it meant one less to get ensconced in a car and set for our treasure trail.
We enjoy doing this sort of trail and have done many with friends in locations around Kent - usually with a Wetherspoons on route for lunch. Unfortunately none on this trail!

Linlithgow Palace (where Mary Queen of Scots was based) taken from across the loch. We originally thought the spire was part of the palace but when we had the opportunity to visit the palace we found out that it was St Michael's Church.

A very old doco (dove cote) in the park in between the Edinburgh - Glasgow canal. The canal also gave an opportunity for everyone to see a narrow boat up close - we'll be trying one out in the summer!

St Michael's church up close - where we had to sort out a confusing puzzle about the spires.

My mum would've been in her element here. It's a lovely idea but probably not used very often.

Where the treasure trail commenced and finished, after a tricky clue involving Roman numerals. The Cross Well one of an original 7 wells in the town but this is the only one left. Pretty impressive! It was then back for some of the group to make homemade butterscotch ice cream (should be ready to eat tomorrow), sip cups of tea and then all head out for dinner. No cooking again 😄.
