26 July Shrewsbury for Shopping

Later today we have the opening ceremony in Paris for the summer Olympics with many of the locals here getting excited. Local boy Oliver Morgan, who recently set a new British men's 100 metre backstroke record, is competing in his first events over the weekend. There is a big screen set up in Bishops Castle community college to show his events, cheer him on and take a picnic. We'll probably stick to cheering from the lounge with the kettle and loo in easy reach - I prefer my comforts accessible 😀.

Anyway before an evening watching the Parisians getting soaked (a damp evening for the performers and teams floating along the Seine) we enjoyed our visit into Shrewsbury.

Despite being the school holidays Shrewsbury was quite pleasant as we had a potter about. A few purchases were made and we sorted out getting mum's emergency phone working (once we'd worked out which company the SIM was from - EE helped and directed us to Vodafone! 😀).

We also enjoyed lunch out in Pizza Express where I could claim my free birthday pizza and a few other treats. Always lovely not to cook and wash up.

This evening the duck project continues while I watch the opening ceremony. I think I prefer a stadium event along the vein of what Danny Boyle did for our Olympics - although it was a bit different.

Not sure what we're up to tomorrow but we'll bound to tune into Oliver's swimming if it's on 🇬🇧.
