Leaving with plenty of time we returned the hire car without a problem and got dropped at the airport. Not so sure about a couple who were returning their car after us as they had arrived at 10am and their flight was at 11am! We thought they were cutting it a bit fine especially as they missed the shuttle bus we got on.
We had a pretty straightforward flight with just a 10 minutes delay as the plane we got on had arrived late. Complimentary hot drinks and a snack on our Air New Zealand flight so by the time we'd all had our cuppa it was nearly time to land.
Once at the airport we managed to locate our bags and find our transfer bus to the car hire. Photos all taken of the car (still to be named) and we were beach ward bound to Baylys Beach, near Dargaville. A journey which would be a bit touch and go as to whether the local supermarket would be open or not (in NZ it's a rare thing for a supermarket to be open longer than 7pm).
No worries we thought. We'd get on our way and as well as stopping off for something to eat we could do a shop for breakfast bits. Unfortunately despite being on main roads it seems that you blink and you've missed going through a town! It was getting to a stage that we were preparing to share an apple, a few squares of chocolate and the idea of eating toothpaste was muted 😅.
Then out of the haze a faded yellow M on a red background appeared - out in the middle of nowhere! That'll do! So the toothpaste was safe! Even better there was a Four Square supermarket so we're now all sorted for breakfast.
