Walking down hill towards the harbour we came across the extensive roadworks which explains why many roads were closed yesterday. It also answers our question as to where all the rubble and stones washed down the roads came from.
We can imagine the look on the workmen's faces when they turn up for work tomorrow morning. All puzzling over why the road building materials are scattered all over town. Mostly downhill in the gutters.
By the time we reached the harbour the skies were getting a bit grey and there was a threat of rain. We managed to have a quick explore but we'll be visiting here again when it's drier.
When the rain started we managed to dart into a nearby cafe before we got too wet. Here we met two elderly ladies both called Carol who have been living locally for over 20 years. Both explained that the current weather has not been experienced in that time.
We had a lovely chat with them before we headed back to the apartment via the Best Value supermarket. We picked up some bargains - Heinz tomato soup 4 cans for just 50 cents. And they were in date!
A lovely soup and toast lunch - lovely for a cold, damp day. Luckily it was dry and warm enough to sit out on the balcony in between the showers. The balcony also proved to be a good lightning viewing spot. We could see the lightning strikes in the distance out over the sea.
Rain soon commenced again and we thought that was it for the rest of the day light. However, we managed to get another short walk in at about 5pm before it got dark. The lights were just starting to come on.
We walked in the direction of where we went through a road closure yesterday. Ian was pleased to find another supermarket where he bought some Ouzo. 38% alcohol! Definitely not my cup of tea as it has an aniseed taste. I'll stick to the coffee😄.
It has been raining constantly since about 9pm. However, there is less rain forecast for tomorrow and there are more places due to be open as it's a Monday. So I sense that we'll be out exploring more of A.N. when it's dry.
