14th August Pwllheli

After our reggae entertainment until 11pm we had a quiet night.

             Sunset over Porthdinllean

We woke to half the number of yachts as last night. All those going north would've left at 7am to get the best of the tides. Those going south would be going at about 1pm so we had a lovely sunny morning chilling in the cockpit (more reading).

Red building is where reggae came from

Next to no wind but loads of tide. Hitting 10.1 knots going through the gap between the end of the peninsula and Bardsey Island. Normally we potter along at about 5-6 knots. So we did about 15 miles along the north, round the peninsula and another 15 the other way. We've ended up about 5 miles across land from where we were last night!

                      Motoring along

Once round the end we've come into Cardigan Bay and soon saw bottle nosed dolphins and harbour porpoises. Sadly a group of people in small motor boats were following some around - mobile phones at the ready trying to get close for a photo. They seem to forget they're wild animals and it's dangerous for them to have their engines on and propellors running near dolphins. One of the benefits of sailing is that dolphins will dive under the boat and not be harmed as our propellor is not going.

By the time we arrived at Pwllheli the tide was now coming in so we could tentatively enter the harbour as the water level was rising. After fuelling up we're now moored in the marina so no worries about having lights on tonight. I've even unearthed the electric kettle again.

                   A very full marina

Tomorrow if the forecast is OK we're heading to Aberdovey as we're planning to lift Anya out - a good winter storage rate!
