First stop Malahide on the DART train, although we nearly missed it! Despite it being the end of the line we thought we were just having a longer stop at a station. Only when I put brain in gear did I look at the station name 😄.
We pottered down to the harbour - very pretty on the way down. Then walked up to the castle for a picnic lunch.
Then we walked along the coast path to Portmarnock and jumped on a bus to Sutton station with the idea of getting the train to Howth (pronounced Hoat like stoat). Unfortunately there was a signal failure so all trains were suspended and there wasn't a bus service to Howth. So good old shanks pony was in action. Only a quick 3km and we arrived. Another busy fishing harbour and marina. Full of foreign students - there was a group of about 30 trying to travel on one of the buses we were on but there were too many of them to fit on.
We jumped on another bus up to Howth summit (not much to see) and had a cuppa whilst waiting for the bus back to the train station in the hope that the trains were running again. They were!
We managed to get on the next train, getting off to check out where my sister is soon going to stay so we could let her know how to get there from the airport. A very grand hotel.
Then back on another bus to Dun Laoghaire - taking a route we weren't familiar with but we managed to end up near the harbour.
Now back on board for dinner and a chill. Ian nearly finished another book - not bad for someone who doesn't normally read much. I'm about to watch the last episode of The Bay series 3 - if we get a good signal we can use the catch up TV facility.
Another day out planned tomorrow. This time we're going to head south to Bray and Greystones. Another mixture of public transport and walking. We managed nearly 22,000 steps today ☺️.
