15th July Day in Dublin

Sightseeing in Dublin for the day. I think we've walked up every street possible in the city as we covered over 32,000 steps (about 14 miles) - my walking buddies will be impressed 😄.

We caught the DART service in to Grand Canal station, which is the stop after Lansdowne Road (home of Irish rugby). Then it was non stop sightseeing.

We've seen Dublin Castle, St Patrick's cathedral, the tall ship Jeanie Johnston, been to the Guinness brewery, and visited loads of areas such as Temple bar (bars, Irish singing and dancing) and Docklands.

                    St Patrick's Cathedral

St James's Gate entrance to Guinness

                  Old Customs House

The original Jeanie Johnston tall ship transported emigrants to North America as a result of the potato famine.

There are so many bridges crossing the river I gave up counting the number we went over. I did take a pic of Ha'penny Bridge though as it is the first iron pedestrian bridge built in Ireland in 1816. Built across the River Liffey it used to cost half a penny to cross. Today we've been awash in Irish culture 😃.

We also sorted out a 3 day Leap card which allows us to travel on trains, buses and trains for 16€. So over the weekend we're going north of Dublin to Malahide and Howth and south of Dun Laoghaire to Bray and Greystones. We also hope to go east out of Dublin on the tram to the Point and west to Phoenix Park.
