7 June Journey Complete

Well we're back!!

Up at 6.30am, a quick cuppa and then it was off to the boulangerie for it's 7am opening.

Margaret fulfilled her wish of having a huge slice of fresh custard tart for breakfast 😃.

We continued our drive north through France, often on tree lined Roman roads, stretching into the distance.

With a ferry booked for 3.15pm, 300 miles and about 6 hours driving we were on a tight schedule to make it. So when we stopped for a break and found that it was 10 minutes wait before it opened we piled back in the car until we found somewhere open.

Rashly Ian took another stop to fuel up and nearly lost the door in the strong winds! Luckily he grabbed hold of it before wiping out the Range Rover fuelling up next to us. Otherwise it could've been an awkward conversation explaining the dent in their driver's door!

With a good hour before the crossing was due, we arrived with ease at the port before running the gauntlet of check-in, passport control and customs. Whether it was having Margaret with us or not, it caused a few additional questions at passport control (reason for entry into UK, did she have a ticket home, date, time etc), and then the car was checked at customs (definitely no room in the car for anyone else and I think we would've noticed). We passed with flying colours!

Unfortunately with the relief of getting on the early afternoon crossing and general chatting I managed to overshoot our boarding lane. A quick 360°, hazard lights on (I had to go back on a one way bit), a wait for a break in the flow of traffic and then we were back on track.

All aboard!

Our very late on board lunch was the remains of last night's pizza - very tasty washed down with a cappuccino.

Ready for what I'd thought was going to be a choppy ride with the strong winds. However, rather pleasantly it was pretty smooth so I even managed a spot of knitting to keep me occupied.

White Cliffs of Dover coming into focus through the murk.

Our route back home was quiet for a Saturday afternoon and remarkably dry considering the yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms. The heavy rain came later when Ian ventured out to get fish and chips for dinner.

Tomorrow's forecast and for the rest of the week is looking to be sunny and warm. Back to Spanish conditions!!
