Amy, Ian and I have completed our second morning and final part of our Makaton training. I can now confidently sign and ask for more coffee and biscuits - all very useful phrases😆.
It means helping make communication easier when verbalising is tricky so a skill useful in many circumstances. Additionally it's a form of communication using symbols.
I hadn't even realised that when I was teaching that signs and symbols like these would've made life so much easier when I had a mute child in my class! It would've been useful while we were sailing as well. Oh well, at least Ian and I can communicate if we're too deaf to hear each other or mumbly when we lose our teeth 🤣.
We took a trip to Aberaeron this afternoon with the aim of picking up a darning needle. Unfortunately we discovered after trying out the £1.20 shop and a few other shops in the hope of finding said needle that the knitting shop closed at 2pm on a Saturday. Although we still wouldn't have got there before then as we didn't finish lunch until after that time. Never mind, another reason for a trip out next week.
On our return drive we have to cut across from the main road to our caravan site on the beach side. It takes us near a large dairy farm so there have been times when the farmer is getting his cows from one field, across the road and into the farm. Today it was 4pm so a bit late for milking and we saw 2 cows being herded across the road. We just thought they were stragglers as we continued along the road.
We hadn't gone very far and came across another 2 cows standing the road side of the fence, in a gateway. They definitely shouldn't be there so we quickly reversed to the farmyard where I dashed to get the farmer and his son. They jumped into action to retrieve their cows, we had to flag down a lorry to stop it getting in the way of the cows and I was trying to clean my own toed walking sandals which were a bit sticky after trying to avoid cow doings in the farmyard.
The farmer, accompanied by his dog, then came over for a chat and to thank us for helping. His dog got ultra friendly and jumped up - more poop to be cleaned off!! Despite the car having a countryside aroma we felt very happy to have helped on our cow rescue. Especially as some drivers whizz along the country roads - hitting a cow would not be a good result.
Anyway we got back in time to do my bit of unexpected washing before we could enjoy the England Roses winning the 6 Nations Rugby final against France. A nerve wracking match up until the last minute, as France looked like they had the opportunity to win with 2 minutes to go! Then it'll be the Women's World Cup in August to look forward to.
Currently we have nothing planned for tomorrow other than roast chicken on the menu! Sunshine forecast so looking forward to sitting outside and reading - a lovely early summer activity.
