1 November Dia de Todos los Santos

Well when I woke up this morning I didn't realise it was a bank holiday.

But when I walked to Mercadona to pick up a few things I realised it was after a quick Google. Luckily there are several supermarkets in the same area, and they take it in turns to be open on a bank holiday, so I found that Lidl was open for business.

I probably explained the reason for this bank holiday when we found out last year. But as a reminder Duas de Todos los Santos is All Saints Day. This is when people return to their family town or village to lay flowers on the graves of the dead.

There is also the tradition of eating roasted chestnuts, alongside small almond cakes, pannellets which we tried out last year - horrendously expensive and not something I think I'd buy again. They couldn't have been that amazing as we didn't finish eating them. Now if they were chocolate they would definitely have gone!!

The chestnut sellers have been out for a few weeks now. It was interesting that I noticed bags of chestnuts, for roasting at home, were a popular purchase in Lidl today. Either that or they'd reduced the price!! Fortunately the thought of a price reduction didn't tempt me as I found the ones we tried last year were a bit like eating soft cardboard. A salted peanut is more to my liking.

Anyway after walking back and basing myself out on the balcony for the rest of the afternoon I think I've had a very relaxing afternoon. Just trying to shift the sniffle that I've got so hopefully the fresh air is doing me good.

Ian is back tomorrow night so looking forward to his arrival 😁.
