29 August Found Gran and Grandad!

A busy day and a trip to All Stretton later on. Then it was my last afternoon seeing my sister and her husband before I head off back to Kent and they return to New Zealand.

We decided on a trip to go and find Gran and Grandad after my previous unsuccessful visit with Mum to find their grave in amongst the sheep. As Bridget and Simon had managed to find it on their previous visit to the UK I was relying on their memories to find it.

This time the grass was much shorter (the sheep had been hard at work chomping their way through the greenery) and definitely drier.

Bridget sent me ahead to show her where we'd been looking and then she immediately found the grave!!! We weren't looking that far away on our previous attempt so it was puzzling why we hadn't found it originally.

Their apple tree was abundant with fruit so we picked some to take back for an apple crumble.

Then Bridget and Simon confessed that they had visited a few weeks ago. It was only by chance that they found the slab marking the burial spot. Bridget had luckily kicked the edge of it and with a bit of digging managed to uncover it. So that was why they'd found it so easily 😄.

We've now pin pointed it for future generations and so we can return to it without having to dig through the undergrowth. As it's a green burial site it's effectively a field with sheep running around in it. So it's not surprising that it had been a bit tricky locating it.

It was then a stop for the traditional fish and chips on our way back and farewells until it's time for our next adventure to New Zealand.

Tomorrow I'm heading south in Rolo back to Kent and then the sunshine!
