21 August First Day of Fringe

Up early, had breakfast and off to Edinburgh Fringe before Peter surfaced this morning 😄.

Having arrived a bit early I had time for a bit of a wander along my way to the venue to see the musical Legally Blonde. This is the Sir Walter Scott memorial on Princes Street.

Melville Monument in St Andrews Square.

I finally arrived at the venue - 6th in the queue! So had a choice of the good seats and a perfect view. Whilst in the queue I ended up chatting with the Aunt of a cast member and the Mum of the choreographer! A brilliant show. 5 stars from me.

Then it was time to find somewhere for my picnic lunch. Princes Street Gardens provided a great view of the Castle and the Edinburgh Tattoo stadium that has been built up on the Mount.

Some of the garden displays were very intricate. This one celebrating the RNLI was also a wind indicator.

Everywhere is very colourful with street artists just popping up at every turn.

This was an escapologist - just about to get chained up.

A disco set from this one.

This singer was very good.

An up close magician - no idea how he did his tricks.

Dancers.

And even a sabre wielding Scot balanced on top of a ladder!!

Rob informed me that the Edinburgh Tattoo takes place in a temporary stadium near the Castle. An amazing structure that overhangs the mount.

Anyway after getting spectacularly lost by heading totally in the wrong direction (no surprise to many people who know how bad my navigation is) I made my way back to Waverley station. A bit of a busy train but I managed to get a seat and have written my blog ony way back for dinner.

A great experience on my first day at the Fringe. I'm back for more tomorrow and meeting up with friends for lunch so hopefully another dry day (so lucky to have dodged the rain today as the forecast had originally been for rain all day).
