27 May Off to Nevers

We had a sensible leaving time (just after 8.30am) following breakfast and the final tidying of bits - defrosting the deep freeze and making baguette sandwiches for lunch.

Weather conditions were good and 22C on the guage - this didn't last long! We crossed over into France and the skies gradually got darker. With our first stop for coffee being accompanied by the patter of rain on Rolo's roof - a bit like being in a tent under canvas! The temperature had also taken a dive to 13C.

You know you're in France when you can get mini raisin Madeleines to go with your cafe au lait.

As well as the Olympics this year, France are hosting the 100th Tour de France. We passed through several towns that are on the route with decorations to welcome the cyclists and supporters.

We arrived at our hotel in Nevers by 6.30pm. Perfectly timed for dinner and an early night. We still have about 7 hour's drive, if we go on the non toll route, so an early alarm for our breakfast. The plan is to get a decent timed crossing (early evening) from Calais. Just hope the crossing is smooth 🤞.
