Today we drove down to Rotorua, about hour and half drive away to the Redwoods Altitude - a zip line and tree top adventure. Set in what was a experimental forest where in 1901 loads of different types of tree species were planted to work out what trees were best to replace all the trees cut down at that time. The Redwood was found to grow too fast and not to be very useful as a soft wood. The tallest is currently over 70m so catching up with the world record holder of about 115m!
All geared up and ready to throw themselves off the tree tops.
All ready for the first zip line. We took some pictures and then headed off for a cuppa leaving them with their guides to complete the circuit in the Redwood forest.
We drove into main Rotorua to the park to look for the bubbling pools and hot water pools. Lovely to soak our feet - a bit hot to start off with, especially with nearby pools at over 100°C!
Lunch in the historic pub based in the old Police station - typical NZ sense of humour for its name.
After our day in Rotorua it was back for a swim before dinner. Not sure what we're doing tomorrow but loads we could do and visit.
