7th November Trial Run

We were out on the bikes today. This time we decided on a trial run to Palau-saverdera as this is where we have to return the bikes to at the end of our stay.

The weather has been dry and when the sun is out (and you're out of the wind) it's lovely and warm. So we had a pleasant cycle taking part of a route we'd done before going on some rough rocky cycle trails at the start before being on some quiet country roads.

My bike had a bit of an issue with its gears but Ian (who's got every tool necessary in his packback) whipped out a screwdriver and we were soon back on the road.

I was quite relieved that they were sorted as the lower gears were definitely necessary at the end of the trial run back to our friend's house as it's up a steep hill. We made it about 3/4 way up before a bit of pushing was needed😃. As he'd dropped the bikes off to us we had to work out how to get back to his garden as he's currently back in the UK. Once Ian had confirmed the location of his garden with his neighbour I suggested another route to get back to the main road. Unfortunately it was another uphill route 😅.

However what goes up must come down so we ended up free wheeling for what seemed to be about half the journey back! Our ride then turned a bit lumpy when we ended up on another ricketedy pathway back. My backside was most relieved to have a comfortable gel saddle to take the brunt of the bumps. 

This afternoon we've been out to the bodega (wine and drinks shop) to check prices for purchases to be made before we return. Ian got a bit distracted by all the wine on tap. So many to choose from.

On our walk back the starlings were filling the skies - a massive murmuration that went on for ages. If you zoom in it's birds!

Ian managed to get splattered on as they were flying over so we had to dive for cover. Maybe he'll be lucky this week.

As it's the second Wednesday in the month tomorrow it's the Friends in the Bay lunch. The restaurant is off in another village so it'll be good to try out somewhere new again. I'll let you know all about it tomorrow.
