Olot is known for its nature park and is a city surrounded by 4 volcanoes (long extinct). We found the one closest to the city to climb and put our legs through a workout.
There was a trail of stations of the cross going up to the crater of Volcano Montsacopa. At the top of which is the chapel of Sant Francesc on the edge of the crater.
Sant Francesc chapel above the crater was built in 1827. The parishioners must've been pretty fit as it's a bit of a slog to get there!
From our view on top of the volcano we could see the bullring (marked with an arrow) as well as the other volcanoes.
Our walk down the volcano was much faster than our walk up. We also headed further on down into the city and came across a market 😁. Ian was pleased as we'd run out of garlic so stocked up.
We also located the bull ring. Not able to go inside we had to make do with a walk around it before heading back up the hill to the car park.
We took a different route back going via Sant Joan les Fonts. The bridge dates back to the 1500s and only in the last decade has it stopped vehicles going over it. Our walk there was very crunchy as the pavements were covered with all the autumn leaves.
This waterfall is in another volcanic area with lots of examples of volcanic rock (well according to the information boards 😃).
