21st November A Bit of a Breeze

Last night the wind was out in force (and I don't mean Ian 😅). The outdoor furniture was moving about (you can hear it scrapping across the tiled balcony as it gets blown about) and the wind was whistling round the building. Luckily nothing got blown over the side as remedial action was taken by securing it and moving some indoors.

On waking the wind had totally stopped and we also noticed that there had been rain overnight. The balcony was a bit damp and the road had a few puddles. I had been a bit worried that we were going to have to postpone our planned bike ride but as there was no wind and it was dry we set off mid morning.

Today's ride took us on a new route after we crossed the nature reserve in the direction of Empuriabrava. This time we cycled the route down to the beach campsite, which is now closed for winter. It took us right down to the beach.

Looking across to Roses from La Rubina beach at Empuriabrava. Other than a few other cyclists there was no one about.

The view looking across the dunes and towards the campsite. There was a rough road that looked like it was going in the direction of main Empuriabrava so we took that. We're not quite at professional BMX standard but we did a good job navigating puddles and cycling over damp sand.

We stopped for a coffee in our favourite cafe on the main beach front. They've got Christmas baubles and fir tree effect decorating the sides, which always seems odd when it's sunny.

By the time we'd finished our break the wind had started to pick up and it was not in a favourable direction. Our journey back ended up being a bit of a slog but we must've burnt off quite a few calories. We also managed to stop off and find a geocache that evaded us on a previous search so that was very pleasing.

This afternoon the wind has definitely increased so to avoid our lettuce flying off our plates we had lunch indoors today. It was very much an indoors afternoon as the wind made it pretty chilly despite some sunshine.

One positive of being indoors was that I finished my tapestry. Now to find something to do with it!

I've also been working on the stag crochet blanket that I'd put to one side while I finished the tapestry as I wanted to make sure I had the wool. This had involved learning a new stitch so my crochet reportoire is increasing - not as confident as knitting but getting there.

As for tomorrow's activities, these may depend on whether the wind (tramontana) continues. I'm sure whatever happens we'll be out and about somewhere.
