Another misty start to the day but again the sun soon broke through. I decided that we could have a drive to Castello d'Empuries - there is a Tuesday market which I thought we could check out! Also a geocache north of the town. Ian needed a bit of reassuring that it wasn't going to involve a hike but I packed a drink and supplies just in case 😅.
In the cathedral square we came across what was a very small market - a fruit/vegetable stall, one with meat, fish and cheese and a clothes stall. Miniscule in comparison to the markets we normally go to.
Ladybird topped cakes and what Ian described as maggot balls - although I'm sure these almond delights were probably very tasty.
We had a pleasant stroll along a cycle path/hiking route north of the town to find our geocache. Dried sunflower fields on both sides of the path.
Found the geocache in a black poop bag. I did panic a bit when Ian went delving in the bag but luckily he only put his hands on a cannister containing the log book 😄.
Enjoying a coffee in a back street bar. We had quite a conversation with a Romanian lady on the neighbouring table who'd lived in Spain for the past 10 years. She's had quite a life!
We found the town's old public washing pool. Similar to the one we found in Escala where everyone would take their weekly wash. This one's pretty impressive and gives you more of an idea of how it functioned.
We finished our trip out by diverting into Empuriabrava to fuel up Rolo and then went and did our big shop. This involves all the bulky or heavy stuff that we couldn't get in our rucksacks when we do a walking shop.
The rest of the day was then spent measuring up for some new light fittings and sorting out replacement door knobs for our dresser. All exciting stuff over here!
