22nd September A Smashing Time

The forecast yesterday given for today was for a 50% chance of rain. The sun gods must've been looking down on us as we had the 50% chance that it didn't. A dry and slightly cooler day but ideal for drying a load of washing.

Before we tackled the washing Ian managed to send a plate flying. Glass everywhere! So out with the broom, dust pan and brush for some impromptu housework as even under the sofas had a spring-clean. Then we were on a hunt the shower trap (like a basket thing that goes in the shower drain and stops niffs coming back up the drain). Ian discovered this morning after we'd been plagued with a smelly drain that it had gone walkies. Why do people who rent the apartment take things like this out and don't return them? Aaarrrggghhhh!

Unfortunately a trip to the local hardware shop didn't come up with any happy news. As the shower drain is Italian (why did they fit an Italian drain in Spain???) they don't supply anything like it, especially as it's an oval shape rather than round. As we can't get a replacement it looks like we'll have to remove the tiles under the side of the shower tray to replace the whole thing. Or.... you can find a plastic bottle and see if it'll do the job Foreman style 😃.

Bread board, bread knife and a plastic bottle. All the tools required to mend the shower trap!

After Ian had sorted out the shower we decided on doing a load of washing. We'd saved up enough for a big wash and took it all to the laundry around the corner. Managed to stuff it all in, checked the water was running into it and went for a walk along the prom while we waited for it to complete its cycle.

Back with our wet washing it was all hung out and by late afternoon it was dry. Perfect!

This afternoon as it wasn't sunny Ian decided to crack on with tiling the kitchen. Literally! He's putting an extra layer of tiles up to extend the tiled area.

He'd successfully measured, cut and stuck up the first large tile only for it to come disconnected from the wall and crash into the sink. One tile now in 4 pieces 😬. Undeterred he gallantly persevered and has got most of the new tiling up.

Mending the cupboard while he's at it.

Our swimming towels providing a more softer landing if this large tile decides to become unstuck. Hopefully there's enough whole bits to finish the job.

I ran out of raspberries for breakfast yesterday so a perfect excuse to go to Empuriabrava market tomorrow. I'm sure we'll find something suitable.
