29th August At Loggerheads!

All action stations first thing as at 7.55am Dad remembered that he'd seen the local plumber last Friday in the local shop and asked him to come and look at their dripping tap. The only issue was that Dad just remembered that he was due at 8am! Mum was not best impressed as she was still in bed hoping to get another 15 minutes snooze. I also had to abandon all hopes of a shower as the thought of the plumber requiring access to the bathroom while I was shampooing didn't bode well 😅.

So we were all breakfasting nano seconds just after Dad's announcement waiting for the arrival of the plumber. And waiting ....

We then found out that the plumber is the same age as Dad (93) and so probably had no recollection of the conversation. Confirmed when Dad, on his way back with the paper from the corner shop, had spotted the plumber's van going in the opposite direction. At this point I gambled on the plumber not turning up anytime soon and headed for the shower. Ian in the meantime had mended the dripping tap so Mum called to cancel any anticipated visit.

So after all our excitement this morning we had a quiet hour or so (other than a convoluted debate between Ian and Mum) so I finished off the stag cushion cover.

Then we headed off for lunch at The Green Dragon via a scenic detour because of a road closure. I thought it was only me who found the country lanes with grass growing down the middle. I must take after Mum as we were following her on the detour.

After our very filling lunch we managed to time our departures so we got in our cars just before a huge diluge. Thankfully it only lasted a few minutes and we were soon on our way to Stoke on Trent.

On our way we went through the village of Loggerheads, which I found out takes its name from the pub, which used to be known as The Three Loggerheads (meaning "The Three Fools"). And the word comes from logger 'block of wood for hobbling a horse' + head. There you go - something you've learned today.

We've had a chilled evening in anticipation the start of our DIY tomorrow - a mixture of painting, wallpapering, wall filling and door hanging to keep us busy.
