18th August Stayed Dry

There's me thinking that today was going to be a total washout. Well it looks like we were lucky and had a dry day all day. Storm Betty is brewing and only just starting up this evening as I write this. I'll update you tomorrow on how we fared overnight in the gales!

We ended up being quite energetic after the last few slowed down days. Jumping into Rolo we headed off to Penbryn on the coast about 25 minutes away. Having not been successful in finding a parking spot near the beach we drove back up the hill and parked by the church. This ended up being the perfect location for a circular walk.

Initially we walked along the country lanes. We ended up discovering more sloes/damsons and an abundance of blackberries in various stages of ripeness.

Our walk took us in the direction of Tresaith, a small out of the way cove that to drive to takes a very windy road. Walking takes you down an array of steps - which you have to slog back up to get on the coast path 😃.

A regatta was supposed to be taking place but when we arrived all the catamarans were on the beach. The race for today was abandoned due to the high winds off shore. Inshore the winds weren't too bad and made our walk quite pleasant with a cool breeze. On the beach Ian recognised one of the boat owners as being someone he knew from his RONA sailing in Ipswich so we stopped for a chat.

Then onwards back up the steps to join the coast path along to Penbryn.

Tresaith behind us as we make our way along the coast path.

More steps! At least these were going down.

Penbryn beach. All sandy beaches along this part of the coast line.

We had a very satisfying walk as we didn't get rained on and got back well in time before the weather changed. Now time to batten down the hatches and wait for Storm Betty to blow over.
