26th July BT Problems

Into Rolo, roof down and a drive to Ypopty bakery in Aberaeon at 8.30am to pick up a couple of cream buns at Mum's request. Unfortunately no buns! So had to facetime to show Mum the bakery's goodies - chocolate eclairs and Eccles cakes were chosen.

On to Shropshire to deliver the baked treats and a stop overnight on route to Warwickshire for dog sitting.

I don't think I mentioned on Sunday about my calls to BT to sort out getting an engineer to mend Mum and Dad's landline. It was as dead as a Dodo and as you can't get a mobile signal in the house it's something that really needed to be sorted. After jumping through hoops an engineer was eventually booked to visit Wednesday between 8-1pm (the first slot available!). So we fully expected one to arrive during that time frame. Did they?....

That would be a whopping NO!

So giving the engineer a bit of extra time I waited until about 1.45pm and took my mobile down their lane. I was quite surprised to get a signal before I reached the corner. However, once I'd go through the endless 'press 1 for..' and was speaking to customer services the signal went! I went further down the lane and managed to get through again.

I had a barrage of security questions to get through and explained that I couldn't ask my parents to speak to them as I was currently standing in a ditch, phone in the air, trying to stay dry as it was starting to drizzle and I didn't want to move in case the signal went!😅 Eventually I was put through to the lovely Mary from Dublin in the technical department who was very friendly and chatty. After confirming everything that I'd already said, lots of ooing and aahhing and double checking that the phone really wasn't working she then began the search to find what had happened to the engineer. With much encouragement from me to speed her up, as by this stage I was getting a bit damp (it didn't look like rain when I left the house) she started to investigate why the engineer hadn't been. Unfortunately she couldn't categorically say where they were or why they hadn't been but reassured me that she would update me via email before she left at 5pm and that we should have a visit this afternoon.

So after a bit of a catch up on reading the papers and my detective novel, some tea (chocolate eclairs and Eccles cakes) I tackled the wooden kitchen worktop.

In real need of some oil.

After some oil treatment. I'll put at least another coat on so it can soak in overnight.

By 7pm I hadn't receive an email and we'd not had a visit. The phone remained dead! So this time I put a raincoat on and trogged down the road for a mobile signal. After the neverending security questions (can't fault them on that, but as I just wanted to find out the whereabouts of an engineer it did seem like overkill) I was eventually put through to Hannah in the technical department based in Wales.

This time I found out after being put on hold several times (during which time I probably heard the Top 40 tunes played in full 😀), that the original appointment that I made on Sunday, for this morning, had been cancelled as they had mended the exchange fault! Aaarrrggghhhh 🤯!!!!! Needless to say I was not best impressed standing in a ditch with rain dripping down my neck. And to add to it all the emergency call out team that should have been out this afternoon knocked off at 7pm.

Poor Hannah was most apologetic and I was very damp! The upshot being that I now have to call at 8am tomorrow to find out what's happening 😤.
