9th May Exploring Girona

Today we've had a busy day exploring the medieval city of Girona. Despite flying into the airport and picking up and dropping off others at the airport, it's a city we've not actually been to before.

Our research yesterday located a free car park just on the outskirts of the city by the Parc de la Devesa. The advantage we have found with having Rolo is that we can get into all those spaces that the bigger cars can't. So we were lucky to easily find a spot to park and then head off on our adventures.

Our walk to the area of the cathedral took us through the park.

Guess what we spotted! 😀

A local market! I bought a couple of pairs of €1 earrings - a bargain.

The melons were so huge they cut them into about 8 to sell them.

Heading to the Jewish Quarter

Bascilia de Saint Feliu

On the cathedral steps, before Peter and I climbed up to the top of them for a better view. Ian stayed at the bottom in the shade - about 27C today.

Now I know what to do with old wheels and empty bottles. Put in a bit of dyed water and hang them across the street!

Lavender was being hung from twine across the streets. Not sure why. Could be a mosquito repellent 🤔

Crossing the red foot bridge, Pont de les Peixateries Velles, built by Mr Eiffel of the tower fame.

The bridge in the distance below the Cathedral.

Climbing to get to the start of the city walls walk.

The wall looks over the city.

Panoramic view.

Coming down the tower after checking out the view.

Peter choosing a xuixo, a traditional Girona pastry.

A Crema Catalana flavoured one.

Always good to see the expertise of the local electricians.

Local tradition states that if you kiss the lion's bottom you return to Girona.

No kissing allowed so you have to give it a rub!

We had an exhausting day walking in the heat - just glad it wasn't in the Summer.

The weather changed on our way back to Roses with rain in the air. This made it lovely and cool. Home for Peter's stir fry 😋.
