6th September Cross Country to Clermont Ferrand

A buffet breakfast set us up for our day's drive today. Despite being serenaded by Dolly whose Glastonbury CD was very upbeat (Parton if you were wondering) we needed the patience of a saint to cope with the multiple 'Convoi Exceptionnelle', combines and tractors we were behind on our journey. Why do they move wide loads on a Friday afternoon other than to frustrate the motorists?

Early afternoon we managed to find a river side spot for our baguette lunch. Warm at 24C but a bit overcast. I was worried about the potential for being eaten by mozzies on the river bank but came away unscathed. Phew!

We arrived just after 6pm at our stop to a recently built hotel in the new part of Clermont Ferrand. After unpacking within just 30 minutes we had walked to the historic centre. Here it was brimming with lots of old churches, a cathedral and lovely windy roads, as well as bustling squares packed with evening diners and drinkers.

Up to the cathedral.

Another cathedral Notre Dame (they're not very inventive with their cathedral names). The double chin is going to need some serious work over the next 3 months 😀.

We noticed that above the road names in the old part of the city there were mosaic pictures.

At the other end of this road there was a different picture.

We enjoyed having a bit of a tour - unlikely to return here so a good chance to look around. Tomorrow it's the final leg of our journey to Roses. Should be there for late afternoon if we don't get too many combined and tractors en route.
