6 July Falkirk Wheel and Kelpies

The forecast for today was looking decidedly dodgy from 2pm so we headed out this morning for our Falkirk adventure. However before we got there we made a discovery.

Amy discovered an under seat storage in Rolo. We've had Rolo for a couple of years and never knew it was there!

At the Falkirk Wheel we arrived just as a boat went in to be lifted up.

Just starting it's 180° rotation.

Half way.

Just about at the top.

Watching from the other side.

We walked up to the top to see where the boats were lifted to.

Off through Roxburgh tunnel.

A potential disco setting!

Approaching the wheel.

The Falkirk Wheel was opened in 2002, replacing 11 locks. It used to take a boat all day to get through them all so the wheel certainly speeds up the process as it lifts 2 boats in about 5 minutes. A very energy efficient process as it takes about the same amount of power to boil 8 kettles to turn the wheel.

Next stop the Kelpies and we still hadn't had the forecasted rain.

Very impressive sculptures of these mythical creatures. Kelpies supposedly come out of the water and tempt us poor mortals to get on them. They then take us down to our watery end!

Aww 🥰

After a brisk walk around we then ventured east to Livingston for the rest of the afternoon, before returning for home made pizzas. Then it was time for an Escape Room game.

With Peter as our adjudicator and hint giver we managed to escape in just under an hour. Probably helped by being fuelled by chocolates 😃.

What had originally going to be a bit of a wash out day ended up being a dry, sunny adventure.
