13 July Dolphin Day

It was a bit of an Eat, Sleep, Repeat as the morning started off pretty much the same as yesterday. However this time I managed to see loads of dolphins.

I took my normal route up to New Quay as the full beach route is only possible about 2 hours either side of low water. With high tide about midday it wasn't an option so it'll have to wait until next week.

Walking down the hill it looked perfect for dolphin spotting as it was flat calm.

After a stop at my cuppa spot and a conversation with a couple from Carmarthen and a family from Cardiff who had both checked today's forecast and came for a day trip. The dad in the family said they used to holiday near where my van is but about 25 years ago. He described how it was then - there used to be a shop and cafe in some railway carriages at the top of the slope before going to the beach. The railway carriages have been in a bit of a state of disrepair and may have been removed by now but it was interesting to hear what it used to be like.

Unfortunately despite sitting over looking the sea we didn't see any dolphins so I decided to walk down to the harbour in case they were around the other side. Definitely a good idea!!

It looked like rain might get me on my walk back.

Anyway I'd just climbed up the harbour wall for a better view and spotted dolphins jumping near one of the dolphin spotting boats. There were 2 small pods that gradually made their way in front of the harbour wall and a few came just inside where the boats dock at the end of the wall.

The best I could get! There was lots of dolphins jumping about but trying to get a snap on a mobile phone is tricky.

Anyway after my dolphin fix I walked back and did get a bit damp - well my anorak was wet on my return. Then it all dried up and it's been dry for the rest of the day.

I've decided to give weeding a miss until my blister heals. I've got lots of reading and craft stuff to keep my busy so plenty to do.
