5th May Roses Castle

A gorgeous day today and more walking - although only 25k today. I'm looking forward to a quieter day tomorrow to give my weary feet a rest 😃.

We walked along the prom to Roses for the market and saw Chris and Lorraine who we'd brought stuff for and who live near us in Kent. Guess what? Pauline knew Lorraine! You can guarantee wherever you are Pauline finds someone she knows.

In comparison to yesterday's market and when we were here last year it was really busy. Both Pauline and Tim made some purchases so luckily there was extra rucksack capacity today as we didn't have to pack sweatshirts.

We stopped to have a look at what was on offer at the wine sampling event on our way to Trinidad Castle.

Time for a quick paddle in the chilly water.

Trinidad Castle up the hill from Roses harbour.

Having not visited the castle before we didn't know how steep the steps were to get there. We certainly had a good leg work out!

View from the castle one way.

And looking over Roses with Sta Margarita in the distance.

The castle had some really interesting displays and the views were worth the hike up the hill to get there.

We then continued on our walk along the coast path to the next bay (Canyelles Petites) for an ice cream and a snooze on the beach while we waited for 4.48pm. This was when Pauline and Tim's son was racing the 1500m in Manchester and we could watch it on YouTube. When 4.50pm passed and it was showing the women's 800m we twigged that we had to wait another hour as they'd not taken into account the time difference - easily done.

So we started our walk back and stopped to eventually see him racing as we approached the harbour, in the semi finals and at the right time - he was 2nd and through to tomorrow's final.

Checking out a snazzy old Renault on our return.

After a well deserved cuppa and rest we made our way out to La Cassola for dinner. A lovely way to end our busy day.

Tomorrow we'll be taking Rolo for a spin over the hills to Cadaques, Port Lligat and Salvador Dali's house.
