1st May Wine Sampling Off

A bit of an unexpected day as everything we thought was happening today has ended up being postponed.

This morning we'd expected to meet up with friends over in Empuibrava. However, unfortunately their bed collapsed last night so they were desperately spending today looking for a replacement. No worries we thought as the day had started dry we thought we'd head into Roses for the wine festival.

Then Ian, who had been in contact with a couple who live near us in Kent, got a message from them. As they always fly we had brought some small items down with us that are too big to go in their hand luggage. Ian was organising their delivery but also seeing if they could drop a couple of sun loungers to us that we wanted to purchase from Carrefour. Fortuitously they called to say they were in Carrefour and so we made arrangements and hot footed it over there.

We ended up setting alarms off again as you can see to the left there is an emergency exit. There must be a beam or sensor because if you go towards the end of the sun loungers you set it off! And you can't lift the sun loungers off the pile without going to the end. However, unlike the other day, this time someone actually came to see what we were doing which ended up being a bit of a result. The manager took Ian to the front of the queue to pay for them, as they're stacked on the exit side of the tills, so we made our purchases exceptionally quick.

Once secured in the back of Chris's people carrier we drove in convoy back to the apartment. Here we swapped their furniture, which has been sitting on Rolo's back seat since we arrived, for ours. Then we had the challenge of getting them up in the lift!

Anyway with loungers now ready for use on the balcony we decided to eventually head into Roses for the wine festival.

With flat calm waters there were quite a few boats out today. Even a square rigger at anchor in the bay.

We ended up walking all the way into the marina without seeing any sign of a wine festival. Thinking that we'd got the wrong day we checked the Tourist Information website to find that it's been postponed until Monday! Not too much of a surprise as over the last few days the weather has been very unpredictable.

Turning back we retraced our steps back towards the apartment only to see Richard heading towards Roses for the wine festival along the prom. As we were shedding layers with the sun being out we decided on a leisurely drink to make up for no wine.

We settled in one of the nearby bars offering sand underfoot and a great view.

Sometime later with grey clouds on the horizon (the weather continues to be unpredictable) we ventured home for a very late lunch. And now early evening we have heavy rain accompanied by rumbles of thunder!

Tomorrow we'll be down the launderette first thing before heading over to Empuibrava to catch up with our mini golf companions. Better weather forecast - woohoo!!
