19th May Roses Party Day

A jam packed day as we make the most of what could be the last decent day weatherwise until the end of the week.

The next few days look a tad damp. But never fear we have our anoraks!

On our walk up to the market in Roses we noticed a hive of activity on the beach front. It's the annual student volley ball festival with games of scantily clad young ladies and tanned fellas leaping about in the sand with the aim of getting a ball over the net. Not surprising that they attract quite a few spectators 😃.

After the obligatory potter around the market (no purchases made today) we headed off in the Roses Express for the Roses Day.

We always refer to it as the Noddy Train, but it's a JCB type tractor that has been converted so the exhaust comes out of the train's funnel. It took us off road and across to the Punto Falconera peninsula for the day (we looked and the normal 1.5 hour trip costs €18 pp and we paid €2pp including food!)

We arrived to find the huge paella dishes bubbling away as our lunch was being prepared.

We had expected just to sit on the floor but it was very organised. Big cages containing fold up tables and chairs where you just helped yourself.

Thete were over 100 people all setting up their tables for the day. Some had even brought along tablecloths - we know to bring one next time!

There was a whole area set aside for games.

Some of the games were new ones on us. This one you had to pull the strings to navigate the block containing a ball, around the holes to get it through the hole at the top.

A form of table football.

Getting a shuttlecock propelled into a hole to score points.

These were just a few of the games which seems to be homemade. Almost like being at a school summer fair.

Chilling out just after the nursing team were put into action. A French man at the neighbouring table collapsed. We were called upon to help and after checking he was ok and reassurance (looked like a dizzy spell brought about by a combination of too much heat and dehydration) we saw lunch was ready.

Our paella was a squid type (it's black ink used so the rice is a sort of fishy grey concoction). Pretty tasty and lots of it.

With a few hours to go before we got the train back, Ian and I went in search of a few geocaches. We successfully found two before it was time to jump on the train.

Ready for our return over the top of the hill.

Following our promenade walk back we rested out on the balcony before heading out for dinner. La Cassola tonight and a lovely meal as always.

No plans made for the next few days as we await to see what weather we get.
