14th May Water, Water Everywhere

But not a drop to drink!

We're sitting this evening deciding on which bottle of wine to open as our water is off!!

Overnight we've had more of the much needed rain with emergency drought restrictions eased. The local reservoir has gone from 12% to 25% full over the last week or so. They like to have it running at 66% so still a way to go. Households can now use 250l per person a day relaxed from the previous 200l so things are gradually improving.

With our morning walk abandoned due to the threatening rain (we returned before it started) we ended up lounging and reading until it was time to go out for lunch with Isle of Man Richard.

We had planned on a visit to the French restaurant but it was 'Fermeture exceptionelle' i.e. closed! No worries though as we just went next door to La Cassola, where the new waitress was trying out her English on us. As usual we enjoyed a lengthy and filling lunch, returning with a box of chicken that I couldn't eat (I had to leave room for my pud!).

Richard came back for a cuppa to continue our conversation which is when we discovered we had no water. We've definitely paid the bill so this time we couldn't be cut off. With no sign of a cuppa on the horizon Ian went to investigate finding out that it was a problem in the vicinity. He'd taken an empty bottle over to Port Castello, a nearby agent who speaks English, to see if we could fill it up enough for a kettle full. Unfortunately they're also off!

Luckily I had some cold coffee for iced lattes in the fridge so that was microwaved to keep us going. But we've realised that it's probably a good idea to fill the kettle after emptying it and keeping a bottle of water ... just in case!

Anyway about 5pm Agbar, the water company turned up outside and started looking down drains and having lots of animated conversations. Luckily by this time the rain had stopped and the sun has been beaming. Quite a pleasant evening outside as we sit and follow the progress of getting our supply restored.

By about 6pm the digging started. So our evening's entertainment is sorted as we watch their comings and goings. Hopefully it gets the water back on by morning time for showers.

I've started a new sewing project whilst sitting outside. One that my walking buddy Karen recommended a few months ago but I've never got myself geared up to do as it's not cross stitch as I normally do. This uses different sorts of stitches so a bit of concentration is needed. I've started on satin stitch for the leaves which looks the easiest so I'll keep you informed of my progress.

With a dry day forecast tomorrow we're off to Girona for the Flower Festival. Hopefully the flowers haven't been washed away 😃.
