7th March Tin Can Bay

A busy day yesterday so we've enjoyed a much quieter day today in Tin Can Bay. We're staying in a lovely 1st floor apartment which has a balcony overlooking the Great Sandy Strait.

With brightly coloured parrots sqwarking and flying around this morning Ian was up early exploring the area. So after breakfast we were ready for a walk up to the end of the peninsula to find out more about dolphin feeding opportunities for tomorrow. On arriving the area around the sailing club was a hive of activity with hundreds of jet skis roaring up and being brought ashore on trailers.

We found out that this was the lunch stop today for the Variety Club 6 day fundraiser with a tour starting south of Byron Bay right the way to Gladstone. They would come whizzing up the bay in groups of about 15 and were landed just as another group arrived. It was a very well coordinated system getting everyone ashore and into the club for lunch.

Whilst in the sailing club for a cuppa we noticed the toilet signs. A member told us that most sailing club loos in Australia are labelled this way!

Our walk back took us past this near the beach. I wonder if we have them in the UK? 🤔

After an afternoon of relaxing and reading it was a night off from cooking as we tried out the Tin Bay Country Club. Ian had read good reviews for it's Chinese restaurant in the regional magazine and the manager where we're staying also recommended it.

Pink prawn crackers in Australia. Very prawny  tasting as well 😀. The restaurant was very popular and the meal was huge. We had to bring some back as there was so much.

Last night there was a small lizard Iocated by the bathroom. I think Amy was a bit worried that it was going to come into their room at night (it didn't). Tonight our tiny visitor has made it all the way to the front door so I wonder where it will get to tomorrow.
