5th March Bugs and Bats

Another day, another morning waking to rain. But at least it's warm!

Amy doesn't look impressed by the weather 😂. This was our second attempt at leaving this morning. First time we'd been ultra positive and thought we could go out for the day without our anoraks and just go in a shop or cafe if it started raining. Unfortunately we'd only just crossed the road and it started to rain without a shop or cafe in sight. So huddled under a tree we decided to return and get the anoraks. They've been on and off several times today as it seems to be a short, sharp downpour which then dries up really quickly in the heat.

After a nosy around the Brisbane Arcade (similar to the Burlington Arcade in London) we headed over to the Clock Tower in City Hall for our pre-booked tour. Lovely to arrive just as it was striking midday.

8 of us on our tour went up in the original lift built in the 1930s and which is still hand controlled.

Looking at the clock faces from inside we had to be back downstairs before it chimed. It's too loud for us to be near it when the bells ring.

We enjoyed the Museum displays in the City Hall.

Amy has plans for me to knit and crochet a similar floral display!

Thete were opportunities to get involved in creating some art.

See Amy's addition in the museum.

Ian was creating his own art installation - 'Sleeping Man' 😂

We continued our cultural morning by popping into listen to an organ recital taking place in the City Hall's copper domed auditorium.

From North Quay we took the free City Hopper river service along to Harvard Wharf.

Brisbane city - view from the river.

A new pedestrian bridge is being constructed going over to Kangaroo Point.

After a riverside lunch, in Harvard Wharf, where we tried a variety of fish dishes including 'bugs' - like a mini lobster, we crossed Story Bridge and took the Riverside walk.

It was a bit like Jurassic Park when massive fruit bats were swooping about overhead. Didn't expect to see them!

Further along the path Amy gave a yelpas a huge spider was sitting in a web across the pathway. Just above head height we gave it plenty of room as it was huuuge!!

Our return route took us through the Botanic Gardens with a massive variety of plants and flowers.

Elephant apples - a new one for us.

The steep Jacob's Ladder provided a short cut and a work out on our way back. We definitely enjoyed a swim in the pool this evening.

Tomorrow we're off to Australia Zoo made famous by Steve Irwin - Crikey Mate!
