Yesterday Penny also helped us to identify our strange fruit from the other day. We found a ripe fruit on one tree when we had our lunch stop. Apparently it's a Pandanus or screw pine - and it's edible. Although I don't think much of it is possible to eat as despite it looking ripe it was very hard.
Anyway today we've driven to Brisbane via a scenic route as we drove on minor roads rather than the main highway.
After driving up the Gold Co adt, past Miami beach, we ended up at the end of Southport spit. Here we watched the students at a surf school being put through their paces and got sand blasted as we walked up the spit (the sand from the beach was being blown across a small section of the walk). As Amy and I had only just put on our suncream we both resembled a bit of sandpaper!
Following our midmorning iced drinks and coffee (particularly hot and sticky today) we continued our journey stopping at Cleveland for lunch.
There were some amazingly green/blue metallic bugs on nearby trees. We've identified them as the hibiscus harlequin bug nymphs.
