29th March Final Day of Our Antipodean and Asian Adventures

I'm currently sitting at departures waiting to board the 23.45 back to Heathrow. You'll be receiving this blog just as we arrive back into Heathrow - hopefully on time and not too frazzled as we gain 8 hours back.

We sorted ourselves out and had our luggage left at reception for the day while we went out for a refined day. Amy and I both in dresses and Ian and Freddie with collared shirts and linen shorts. Not a trainer between us so all looking spick and span.

Singapore cakes and delights are definitely very pretty.

Tempting but in this heat we've been more thirsty than hungry.

Heading to Raffles Hotel we met an automated glass collection robot. A very happy thing it was too.

We just had to have a Singapore Slings in the Long Bar of Raffles Hotel where they originated.

There are sacks of ground nuts or peanuts in shells going up the stairs. On each table is a small sack of them and customers are expected to throw the shells on the floor as was done in time gone by.

The Long Bar

After leaving the bar we were able to potter around the hotel. We ended up coming out the front where those that spend over $2000 a night were waiting for their limos. Not like us using the metro 😄.

Then off for a walk through the War Memorial park and round the harbour to Singapore's iconic Merlion. It's shape is used on most souvenirs.

Next activity was to get up to the top of the Marine Sands Bay hotel. Middle tower level 57 for the Sangria bar overlooking the infinity pool one side.

The other side looks over the Garden Bay and huge glasshouses with what seemed to be hundreds of ships at anchor.

Some of the drinks were a tad expensive but I'm sure someone who stays at this exclusive hotel has a tipple.

We enjoyed a very civilised drink and lunch. Getting quite used to this life style 😀.

Anyway before we knew it, it was time to get over to Changhai Airport to drop off our bags. As we had time we went to the Jewel centre to see the world's highest indoor waterfall. Pretty impressive.

Now it's just another hour or so and we'll be on our way back. To washing, shopping and the good old British weather!!
