2nd January Storm Henk Batters Britain

Last night we went to bed with rain battering on the windows and it's continued this morning. The wind has been so blustery that the front door's Christmas wreath has lost most of its greenery and the red bow has blown off! It was a bit scrawny with it's pine cones, baubles and a few orange slices holding on for dear life in between a few bedraggled bits of fir tree. I decided to take it down, remove any remaining bits and put it in the garage in case it can be reused next Christmas.

All my plans to walk to meet up with my friend Jeanette up the road were thrown out as the rain was lashing down. A dry ride in Rolo was much more appealing.

Always lovely to see Jeanette and have a catch up on our news. Hopefully we can squeeze in another cuppa and meet up before we head off to Spain.

A quick shop before heading back home and then Ian and I have been ensconced for the rest of the day. Well the weather is so rubbish an afternoon of TV films was very appealing. We actually came across the ITVx series Broadchurch. One I'd heard about starring David Tennant, as well as many other well known names. We've seen the first few parts of Series one and I'm hooked. Three series in total so plenty to watch when we have rubbish weather.

I've made a start on a bit of embroidery. I found a kit in one of my bags as I had a bit of a tidy. Just perfect for a birthday card but need some good light to differentiate between all the different shades of yellow required for the pattern. Today's dull day hasn't helped so I've been concentrating on the orange as it's easier to follow the pattern.

Amy had a bit of a nightmare journey back with trees falling across roads out in the area she works. Storm Henk has certainly been making its mark across the country (I wonder who thought of Henk?). Luckily she's avoided main problems as work colleagues alerted each other to any traffic issues. So for the rest of this evening we've stayed inside and kept cosy whilst listening to the wind whistling round the house.
