17th December Day Trip to London

Certainly got our 10k steps today as we managed over 24k today on our London adventure.

We took the train from Barming station (not been there before) and once we'd sorted out how to pay for the car park (thankfully we arrived 10 minutes early as the ticket machine wasn't working and we had to download an app or make a call - what do people do without phones?) we were on our way.

Just over an hour later we were approaching London, finally getting off at Cannon Street station.

Taking the river side walk we saw the Globe theatre across the Thames. We recalled our trip there for a Macbeth performance pre GCSEs!

Only Peter 😅!

Ho ho ho!

Starting at Leicester Square we followed a mystery trail, searching for clues to find the murderer and method used. A couple of hours later we had cracked all the clues and worked out who the culprit was.

On our trail we came across a water powered clock.

Not sure how someone would get up to the first and second floor to open the doors 🤔.

By the time we'd finished our Wetherspoons late lunch it was getting dark so we enjoyed the Christmas lights on our route to Sky Garden.

A floodlit St Paul's Cathedral.

We came across part of the Roman city walls.

I'd managed to book tickets to get up the Sky Garden so we all got through the security checks (a bit like going through an airport) and got up to the 35th floor for 360° views.

Tower Bridge all lit up.

St Paul's Cathedral

Another queue for the lift down and then a walk back to Cannon Street station. Keen not to miss the one train an hour we arrived in plenty of time to rest our weary limbs before a relaxing train journey back.

A quiet day tomorrow! Although I'll be out for my Monday morning buddies walk.
