13th December M25 Madness

It's been one of those M25 traffic nightmare journeys which has made our trip on the way back to Kent very tedious.

The day started off fairly straightforward as we emptied the B&B, where we'd been staying for the past 5 nights, of our belongings, presents and breakfast bits. Car packed, key handed in and we headed down through the village to Mum and Dad's for breakfast. Rather pleasingly Ian's hard work yesterday meant the road was clear of any flood water.

With the weather cleared we could make out the 'ROY' in the wooded area on the nearby hill. I remember Mum telling me the story that one of the forestry workers on the Plowden Estate planted them for posterity. Apparently about 20 years ago, before the trees were cut down, it was more obvious. It looks like they've replanted and kept Roy going.

Anyway once filled up on coffee and Rice Krispies we started our journey south, popping into deliver Christmas gifts at my brother's. You may remember we were here dog sitting in the summer - lovely to see the family and the dogs again. They're not far from the M40 so we continued on our drive with ease. That was until we approached the M25!

The M25 section of our journey nearly doubled from it's normal 55 minutes to nearly 2 hours!!! No wonder driving in the continent is so much more enjoyable - you don't get holdups like this.
Going along at a snail's pace we eventually got through the hold up. We couldn't really see what the problem was but we passed a broken down car, a few blokes in high Viz having a chat on the side of the rode and suddenly the road cleared! Mad! Eventually we got back to Kent nearly 8 hours after leaving 😬.

A lovely fish and chip dinner and then feet up for the rest of the evening.
