A lovely bright start to the day so good conditions for a bike ride.
Our first bike ride earlier this week left us both a bit saddle sore/numb so we had to toss for the squidgy saddle cover. We'd not been able to use it previously as we'd left it on a bike and it got wet in the rain. I didn't fancy cycling with wet shorts and we'd left it out to dry.
Anyway I had the squidgy saddle cover and after Amy's suggestion Ian had a folded towel on his seat. Both ended up being perfect for today's ride.
We'd decided to do our epic walking route in reverse as we knew where it ended but weren't sure where it was going to come out. Our previous walk having involved clambering over and under fences and through ditches!
Our journey was going well and then we stopped for a breather. Stopping at the start of another bike route we could hear bells clanging in the distance.
A local herdsman was taking his flock of sheep and goats to new pastures. Luckily it wasn't a busy road as the sheep dogs just sauntered across the road leading the way.
In the distance you can just make out the cathedral in Castello d'Empuries. Our route took us to the public baths near where we'd parked last Sunday. We cycled up through the windy roads of the town to the main square where we took a coffee break.
Then on across the town to the path along the side of the River Muga into Empuriabrava. Crisscrossing along we managed to wend our way across the network of roads over the canals.
Just look at the height of the saddle on this bike. Must belong to someone with incredibly long legs!! We reckon they must suffer with an achy back as the handle bars seem low🤔. Or it could be someone having a laugh at the bike hire shop 😄.
Once we'd orientated ourselves to the main roads we navigated across the remainder of the town to the cycle paths across the nature reserve. Having left just after 10.30am we got back by 2.30pm ready for lunch and a lie down.
With the sun disappearing behind the building in front of us at 5.30pm we know sitting out from tomorrow won't be extended much past 4.30pm with the clocks going back. Oh well, at least we can look forward to an extra hour in bed tomorrow.
