22nd October Looking for a Castle

Paul and Kate's flight was due out of Girona at just gone 3pm so we had the morning to keep ourselves entertained. But only once Kate managed to get everything she had brought back in her bag, after it had been packed by her daughter in neat little rolls for the journey out. I don't think it looked quite the same for her return journey. We also have quite a bit to bring back in Rolo after their market excursions - they love the markets for a good bargain just like me 😅.

With their flight bags in the boot we went to Castello d'Empuries for the morning. I'd found a treasure hunt to go on via a QR code I'd found in the tourist information. Basically it was a story about a lady who was following clues left by her grandfather who had recently died and left her a notebook. It took us all over the town hunting for cryptic clues and took us to places to see things we hadn't spotted on previous visits.

One of our clues.

The town cross, opposite the Basilica, which we hadn't noticed before.

We had to find an upsidedown clue here.

In the last remaining town gatehouse.

An example of the typical Spanish dodgy wiring. Where else would you find spare lengths of cable just hanging around?

This was a fun clue. We were directed to a building that had decorative ants over it.

Luckily we managed to finish all the clues to find the treasure and get a coffee in the town square before we had to make our way to the airport. We successfully dropped Paul and Kate off in the 2 minutes stopping zone and drove back in the general direction of Roses.

On the way back I thought we could stop off at a castle that we always say we'll visit when we do the trip to Girona. We didn't know exactly where it was or what it was called. This meant on our journey down I had to try and work out on the map where it was and head thereon our journey home.

All seemed to go well as we could see it on the route I took us on. Then the roads took the normal dirt track look that I seem to be always navigating Ian on 😅. Rolo should be getting used to it by now. When mirrors are placed on corners to help you see around the corner on the road you know it's not a main road! We kept going until it definitely looked like a path rather than a road and turned back.

Frustratingly we could see the castle on the hill but not how to get there. After a stop to check the map we headed off to another castle (loads round here) and ended up at Castell de Cervia.

The hilltop view over the town.

We got to the top.

After our convoluted route looking at castles we eventually arrived back. Time to move our stuff back into the bedroom after our week on the sofabed and make a start on dinner.

No this is not a fly on the window but a biplane doing loop over our apartment block. We get all sorts of entertainment here.

I think tomorrow will be quiet. Probably a bit of washing and we're due to meet some new friends for a coffee along the seafront mud morning.
