16th September Off to the Market

Well yesterday's damp evening turned into a deluge. About 9pm, while we were catching up on BBC iPlayer's Traitor Australia (you must give the Traitor series a look - it's quite addictive), Ian saw lightning. So we went outside for a better view and the skies just dumped rain. Then the wind came and was lashing the rain about. We had to drop everything and get the clothes drier inside, capture the lilo before it flew off the balcony and make sure the chairs were secure (we have had them blown over the balcony in previous hoolies). Then we closed up all the balcony doors and windows and hoped it stopped by morning.

It did! A few puddles around first thing but by lunchtime everything was dry.

So as planned we drove over to Empuriabrava sea front for the Saturday market. As we were heading out of Santa Margarita we noticed the bin men sporting some natty head gear. Looks like bike helmets are part of the uniform. We were most surprised because A) we've never noticed that the Spanish are particularly health and safety conscious B) what are the incidents likely to occur as bin men that require safety head gear? 🤔

Anyway in Empuriabrava we were pleased to get a parking spot right near the market. Fortunately another car was pulling out as we approached. It was also under a tree so had the added bonus of shade to keep Rolo cool.

It was busy as usual.

Off on our perusal of the market we found English books for €3 at the equivalent of an RSPCA second hand stall. I was pleased to know that if I've read everything in the apartment I know where to get a book. However, as I read so many I usually forget what's happened in books I read 6 months - a year ago. Usually I can usually reread the ones I've packed away without remembering the plot.

A bit big for an egg and spoon race.

We picked up a Christmas present and some raspberries on our marketing. Then after leaving the purchases in Rolo we went off to check out prices for a boat trip round the canal network. Not something we've ever done but a fun thing to do if anyone comes to stay with us. A bit of a potter along the canals and then back to the apartment to cool down.

This afternoon has been a relaxing one. Ian snoozing in the hammock while I've finished a James Patterson book (one of the Murder Club series).

At 7pm the sun is starting to go down. It's lovely sitting on the balcony completing my blog. Sunglasses definitely required😎.
