After we eventually managed to get to sleep last night (loud music from the nearby Polocrosse camp) we awoke to blue skies and sunshine. Great, I thought, a lovely day to sit outside and finish my book after taking the dogs for a walk.
Well we did have all good intentions to head off this morning. Had our bag packed ready, as we were heading into the village to get some milk, and about to put our shoes on when guess what? Yep. The heavens opened!
Eventually by about 2pm we reckoned we had a dry window of time to take our walk. So once out of the front gate it was very noticeable that there was a serious amount of mud on the road. Following the mud we ended up along the road where the Polocrosse tournament goers were trying to get out of the various fields allocated for parking, horses and camping. When they got out they were covered in so much mud it was being dragged down the road.
So much mud! There were horse boxes, cars, vans and caravans scattered along the road as 2 tractors were working flat out to pull vehicles out of the mud.
On our return from the village we took a route along a pathway skirting the back of the primary school. Here I did a double take when I spotted a young deer in the ditch between the path we were on and the fence to the school grounds. Initially I didn't quite believe it was real as it was so close, in addition to the fact that the dogs had both walked past it without noticing. Quickly handing my dog's lead to Ian I tried to get a photo but it bounded off into the undergrowth along with another one that seemed to come from no where.
Back home we were greeted by Duke, the local canine lethario, as we set about having a well earned cuppa out in the sunshine. We did actually manage about half an hour of sunshine before the grey clouds descended and we decamped for inside.
Anyway the adventurers returned in time for dinner to regale us with their French experiences and lengthy ferry trip from Caen to Portsmouth. It was fortunate they weren't travelling yesterday when Storm Antonio was passing through.
So our adventures start again tomorrow after our lovely week in Warwickshire. Tomorrow we're off to see Mum and Dad as we make our way back to Wales.
