Before the parade we visited the House of Manannan situated on the harbour. It is an interactive museum exploring the island's Celtic and Viking past. It also houses a replica of a Viking ship, Odin's Raven which a few years ago was sailed by men from Trondheim and IoM. They left Trondheim and journeyed to Peel and sailed as the Vikings did.
The carnival parade was a fun mixture of fancy dress, floats and old cars. Headed up by the 'Queen', as the parade celebrated the Queen's diamond jubilee, and some very scantily clad festival dancers. I felt very cold just looking at them (in my normal 4 layers 😃) and told Ian that I was sure I could make my bottom wobble more than theirs!!
One car in the parade was the Peel P50. Built in Peel there were only 83 built. It's a very dinky car.
After the parade we visited the local Motor Museum where the P50 is normally on display. It was quite entertaining to see it being put back on display as it had to be lifted through the window!
Tomorrow we're planning on a steam train ride from Douglas to Port Erin. Just loving the forms of transport out here.
