We had to go into the village to a nearby hotel to sort out our mooring fees and access to the pontoon (you need a fob to get on/off the pontoon). Then following directions from a local we went on a walk through the village and then around the headland, overlooking the bay before Strangford.
There is even a castle in the village, although it is more of a tower construction. With small firing windows up the tower, as it was used to protect the entrance to the Lough way back in the 16th century.
Our walk was a bit squelchy at times as it took us through a wooded area that doesn't get much sunshine. We're both now suffering with either smelly feet or shoes - lucky we're sitting in the cockpit to give them an air 😃.
We've been enjoying the sunshine, whilst our wet weather gear is drying. Making the most of it while it's here 😎.
Looks like we'll be going on the ferry over to Portaferry tomorrow as the forecast still too blowy. From where we're moored we can see the tower of an old windmill on the hill. One of the locals has said it is a lovely walk with some good views. Hopefully if the weather stays dry we'll get up there.
