14 June Off on a Hike

With the forecast looking reasonable I suggested a walk along the River Medway this morning for a coffee at Allington Lock. Much to my suprise, Ian who often needs a prod to go for a walk, suggested walking into Maidstone for lunch!

So just after 11am we set off on our hike along the river side.

We took the scenic route over the old bridge at Aylesford before a short walk along the roadside which then leads to the river bank.

More swans spotted today. The cygnets were much younger than yesterday's batch at the lake.

Allington Castle on the opposite river bank. We weren't sure if it was something you can visit so we'll have to investigate.

Eventually arrived in Maidstone about 90 minutes after we started.

A lovely lunch and then it was the return trip - we did walk back, although had the option of the number 71 bus if it rained. In total we racked up over 20k steps today. We haven't been on a long walk like this one since being in Spain. It was great to have such a lovely walk on the doorstep.

This evening we've driven up the dreaded M25 and M40 - although the M25 wasn't too bad for once. We're staying near Rob's as we have a big cousins reunion on Sunday with Amy and Peter's cousins flying in from New Zealand.

Tomorrow we pick up Peter from the airport in the morning and head off for a day with Mum and Dad. A real family weekend 😀.
