30th January Oamaru via Lake Tekapo

Our accomodation in Timaru.

After a hearty breakfast we started today's journey to Oamaru. Freddie had spotted a Botanical Gardens nearby so first stop was a wander through the gardens. Got to keep our steps up.

Fruit from an Empress Tree - a new one to us.

A large variety of thistle - nearly as tall as Ian.

A & F found the play park deserted.

Big kids!!

About halfway to Lake Tekapo we stopped for a Fairlie Bakehouse homemade pie. Well known in this area for the well filled pies - a huge difference to the 1 or 2 chunks found in a manufactured pie.

Three Creek memorabilia at Burke's Pass

The Sheepdog Memorial by Lake Tekapo - despite a plaque we don't really know what it's memorialising.

The Church of the Good Shepherd which overlooks the lake.

The church was closed which was disappointing as the alter window is plain glass with the lake view.

Lake Tekapo

A quick paddle and lunch.

Lake Pukaki with Mount Cook in the distance

Another pit stop for ice cream - luckily we have 4 spoons!

Relaxing in the lounge at Old Bones Llanca she in Oamaru.

Trying out the hot tub with a sea view.

This evening we're going to see if the Oamaru blue penguins are about. We're more awake and better prepared (going to wear more layers as it got a bit chilly last night) so hopefully we'll get a result.
