14th June Over to Perth

Apologies dear reader for the lack of narration in yesterday's blog. After 2 failed attempts at publishing my blog (it managed to delete the whole thing twice), I'd nearly given up the will to live and my phone had narrowly avoided making its way through the window.  So the fact that anything was on yesterday's blog was due to a lot of deep breaths and perseverance.

I'll fill in a few blanks on the day. In case you were wondering about the lack of a mortar board in Peter's pictures they don't have them in a St Andrews graduation. The reason being that in years gone by when women joined the university the men threw their mortar boards into the sea in protest. They've not been worn since.

For the graduation students don't wear the hood part (colour indicates the type/level of degree) until they have actually graduated. The process being they kneel in front of the Chancellor who then places a cloth cap called a birretum on the graduand's head and confers their graduation in Latin. The hood is then placed over their head. It turned out to be a very slick process with several hundred students being awarded their degrees in the hour and half celebration.

This is a picture showing the process that I took in our museum visit.

Anyway that's an update on yesterday.

Today we had a lovely day over in Perth catching up with my old nursing flatmate at his new house. A great day catching up and taking the dogs for a walk.

We went for a walk in the park running along the River Tay.

Peter spotted this unusual coloured spider whilst sitting outside in the garden for lunch.

After our lovely day Peter was in charge of dinner. Spicy sticky sauce and fried chicken with rice. As there is an egg shortage up here we ended up using mashed banana instead of egg when coating the chicken. Tasted rather yummy.
